②It is difficult for a foreigner to learn Chinese.
对于一个外国人来说汉语很难学。
[名师指津] 在“It is/was＋adj.(for/of sb.)＋to do sth.”结构中，for前面的形容词通常是difficult, necessary, important, quick, easy等，这些形容词多与事物的特征有关。而of前面的形容词常常是wise, kind, stupid, silly, bright, nice, good等，这些形容词常常与人的性格特点有关。

upon/on＋n./doing表示“一……就……”，在句中作时间状语。

表示“一……就……”还有以下几种表达方式：
(1)as soon as＋从句
(2)immediately/directly/instantly＋从句
(3)the moment/the minute/the instant＋从句
(4)no sooner ... than .../hardly ...when ...(主句用过去完成时，从句用一般过去时，如果no sooner或hardly位于句首，需部分倒装)

③No sooner he had got into the room when the telephone rang.(×)
④Upon getting into the room, he heard the telephone ringing.(√)

(1)本句为并列复合句，but连接两个并列分句，在第二个分句中so ...that ...引导结果状语从句。
(1)so＋adj./adv.＋that ...
so＋adj.＋a/an＋可数名词单数＋that ...
so＋many/few/much/little (少的)＋名词＋that ...
(2)当so ... that结构中的“so＋修饰词”位于句首时，主句要部分倒装。
①So clever is the boy that he could write when 3 years old.However, he spends so much of his time in front of TV that he hardly has enough time to study.
这个男孩如此聪明以至于3岁就能写字。但是他在电视机前花的时间太多，以至于他几乎没有足够的时间用来学习。
(2)such ...that ...表示“如此……以至于……”，用于引导结果状语从句，其常见形式如下：

天气如此热，谁也不想干活。
③They're such lovely babies that we all like them.
这些孩子很可爱，我们都喜欢他们。
[名师指津] 由于考生对so/such ... that ...句型非常熟悉，往往受思维定势的影响落入命题人设置的陷阱中。注意此句型中的that从句表示结果。如果不是表示结果，就不能用that。
